Obituary

Doris L. Black, of Strafford, was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Finis, on September 20, 2013. She was born in Sabetha, Kansas on September 24, 1922, daughter of Lester and Pearl Keim. They moved from Kansas to Missouri during the Great Depression. While in Missouri, she continued her education and graduated from Louisburg High School in 1941.

Doris and Finis were married May 10, 1943 while he was serving in the Army. After the war, they moved to Louisburg. In 1952, they moved to Springfield, Missouri. Then after returning to Louisburg for a few years, they moved to Strafford, Missouri in 1962. Doris lived in Strafford the rest of her life, which included the many years after Finis passed away in 1973.

During her years in Strafford, she was an active member at the First Baptist Church. At church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, nursery worker and church secretary. She assumed Finis'' role of church treasurer after his passing. She also worked at the Greene County Bank and worked at the polls during the elections for many years. Doris enjoyed time spent at the Strafford Senior Center.

As a married couple, and then later by herself, many hours were spent traveling and watching the sports activities of John and Joe, and later, many activities of her grandchildren. Doris was dedicated to serving her family and others. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. She was also known as "Grandma Doris" to many outside of the family.

She is survived by her sons, John and Joe, and John''s wife Cynthia; her grandchildren, Amanda and her husband Jon Coleman, Jason, Katie and her husband Nathan Lee, Elizabeth, Emalea, Hannah, and step grandchild Alicia Forbes; her great granddaughters, Elise, Vivian and Adeline Coleman, and step great granddaughter Taliah Forbes; her brother and sister in law, Lyle and Roena Keim; and many beloved nephews, nieces and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Finis; daughter, Linda; parents, Lester and Pearl Keim; brother and sister in law, Lynn and Virginia Keim; in laws, Henry and Lucy Black; brother in law, Archie Black; and daughter in law, Joyce Black.

The family deeply appreciates Hospice Compassus and the Strafford Care Center for their support, care and kindness; and also several special friends and neighbors who did the same for her.

The family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, 3322 S Campbell Ave, Springfield, MO 65807.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at the Strafford First Baptist Church, 400 S Madison Ave, Strafford, MO. With a service of remembrance at 7:00.
