IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delilah
Sullivan
March 19, 1929 – May 31, 2024
V elma Hazel "Delilah" Sullivan, age 95, joined her Lord and Savior on the morning of Friday, May 31st, 2024, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Delilah was born on March 19th, 1929, in Thornfield, MO to Smith and Nona Lawson. She is preceded in death by her 6 siblings, Gladys, Thelma, Carl, Earl, Ruth and infant Wilma. Delilah was married to Dr. Charles William Sullivan on May 5th, 1950, in Springfield, MO. She was a faithful and loving spouse for the 68 years that they were married before Dr. Sullivan passed away in their home in Knoxville, TN in 2018. They are now joyfully reunited for eternity.
Charles and Delilah met at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. They moved to Waco, TX where Delilah graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also attended classes at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX while Charles completed his ThD. Delilah was a devoted housewife and mother to her family. She also worked outside of the home for several years in the Financial Aid Department of the University of Texas in Arlington and later taught in a private elementary school in Memphis, TN. She was very active in church and had a leadership role in the Women's Missionary Union and in other aspects of church life including Sunday School teacher. Delilah and Charles traveled the world together on many missionary trips spreading the word of God.
Delilah loved keeping busy. Her hands were never idle as she loved quilting, sewing, hooking rugs and painting but mostly cooking and entertaining friends and family.
Delilah was a devoted mother to her three children, Cynthia, David and Stephen. The children and their spouses are Cynthia Chyrel Little and her husband Don of Tulsa, OK, Charles David Sullivan and his wife Tommie of Phoenix, AZ and Charles Stephen Sullivan and his wife Debbie of Castlewood, VA. She was also a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Lexi Methvin, Corbin Methvin, Tyson Sullivan, Taylar Wallace, Heather King, Charlie Sullivan, and to her great grandchildren, Lila Methvin, Nolan Methvin, Cecelia Methvin, Beckett Wallace, Madison Wallace, Smiley Sullivan, Elijah Sullivan, AnnElise King, Langston King, Logan Sullivan, Tristan Sullivan and Reese Sullivan.
Delilah set a wonderful example of what a wife and mother should be for her children, her church and her community by her faithfulness, her generosity and her love for Jesus. She was sincere in her faith, and nothing made her happier than having her family surrounding her in church. Her spiritual gift was encouragement.
The Sullivan family will gather to celebrate Delilah's life on Monday, June 10th, 2024, at 10:00 AM for a graveside service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield, MO at the family cemetery officiated by Pastor John Yeats. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's or Wounded Warriors in memory of Delilah Sullivan.
