IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Osburn
January 14, 1935 – August 2, 2024
Virgil "Dean" Osburn, 89, of Springfield, MO passed away at the Cedarhurst Assisted Living on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born on Monday, January 14, 1935 in Smallett, MO to G. Ernest and Georgia (Piland) Osburn.
Dean's childhood was split between life on dairy farms in Douglas and Ozark counties, Missouri and the family orchards in Yakima, Washington. He graduated from Ava High School in 1953. After graduation, Dean was employed by Sears in Kansas City, MO and then Del Monte in Rochelle, IL. He served his country in the US Army from 1957-1959 and was stationed in Bad Kissingen, Germany. After returning from the Army, Dean made his home in Springfield, MO. He was employed by Dayco for 27 years and then by Springfield City Utilities as a Bus Driver until his retirement at age 65. Dean soon discovered that he wasn't ready for the recliner yet, so he began working for I66 Auto Auction. He retired from the Auction in his late 70's and then began volunteering at Mercy hospital until his 85th birthday. On October 22, 1960, Dean married the love of his life Viola "Frances" Carlson at the 1st Church of God in Springfield, MO and to this union, two daughters were born. In 1969, Dean and Frances joined the 2nd Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Throughout his life, Dean served God anyway he could in the church, community and missions. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and bowling. Once he became "Grandpa", his main priority became spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren. Dean loved being a dad, grandpa and a great-grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, his parents, one brother Leon, one sister Barbara, his father-in-law Harold Gene, three sisters-in-law Carol, Joyce and Glenda and one grandson Andrew.
Dean is survived by his two daughters, two sons-in-law, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law Keith and Charles, one sister-in-law Mary and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
