David Allen Sears passed away on March 6, 2022 at the Birchpointe Nursing Facility in Springfield, Mo. David was born on March 5, 1946 to Roscoe Hugh Sears and Lorene (Engle) Sears. In August of 1963, at the age of 17, David enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in two active-duty enlistments. These were served from 1963-1967, in which he served in the Vietnam War, and the second being from 1978-1979. He then transferred into the Naval Reserve and served from 1979-1994 at which time he retired. He found no greater honor than to serve his country and fight for the country which he stood strong for until the day he left us. For his service in the Navy, David was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and theVietnam Service Medal with a Single Bronze Star.
David was united in marriage to Patricia Nardin on April 6, 1979. In this union he gained a daughter, Melissa. In March of 1980 a son, Michael joined their family.
David had many different hobbies and interests and was instrumental in volunteering and helping wherever and whenever possible. He along with Dee Wampler, helped to form the Crime Stoppers in Springfield for Greene County. He was a flagman at the Springfield and Monett Raceways, and in he and Patricia's early years of marriage is where they could be found almost every Friday night. He was member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as the Optimist Club. David along with his wife, Pat were avid collectors of all things Nascar, and especially anything with the number 24 of Jeff Gordon. If you were looking for them on a Sunday afternoon, you would find them watching the race during race season. One of David's greatest joys, outside of being a father was becoming a grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He and Pat also spent a lot of their spare time and on their weekends at their trailer at Pomme de Terre Lake.
David is preceded in death by his father, Roscoe H. Sears, two brothers, Lynn and Jim Sears, his mother Lorene, and an infant sister Lois Ann.
David is survived by his wife, Patricia of the home. One son, Michael (Jamie) Sears of Nixa, MO and two daughters Melissa (Jon) Ghan of Republic, Mo, and Davita (James) Christensen of Coffeyville, KS. 6 grandchildren, Alex, Dalton, Emma, Elly, Myli and Maison. As well as 2 step grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren. Five siblings and their spouses, Joyce (Tom) Kassner, Richard (Jill) Sears, Tom (Irene) Sears, Clyde "Buzz" (Terri) Sears, Charlotte (Andy) McMillen along with a host of other nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
The family will hold a memorial service at 9:00 AM Monday, March 14, 2022, at Ozark General Baptist Church, 1201 W South St in Ozark, MO. A graveside service with full military honors will be held 11:00 AM, Monday March 14, 2022, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the family for David's final expenses.
