Obituary

Mr. David Johnson was born on March 26, 1944 and passed on Monday, April 30, 2012. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Betty Thomas Johnson and a nurturing father to Mark J. Thomas (Wendy), son and Chelsea A. Johnson, daughter who both lived with him until they left to attend college. He loved all of his childrenDavid, Johnny, Connie, Marla and Daveta. They all had a special place in his heart and mind.
He is the oldest of ten siblingsHenry(Cynthia), Elaine, William and Doris of Chicago; Yvonne (Gary) of Columbia, MO; Johnny (Montgomery, AL); preceded in death by Louise (Marietta, GA), Edward (Montgomery, GA), and Raymond (Chicago)
His parents Henry and Willie Mae Johnson, both preceded him in death. Mr. Johnson was a retired construction engineer for the Cook County Department of Highways in Chicago, Illinois under the leadership of Cook County President George Dunn for 33 years where he managed road and bridge construction. He served under the Honorable Jesse White, former Chicago Recorder of Deeds, 27th Ward Committeeman and current Illinois Secretary of State. Mr. Johnson was precinct captain for 37 years with the 27th Ward of ChicagoWalter Burnett, Jr., Alderman. He was a member of the Illinois Board of Election for 24 years.
He is originally from Chicago, Illinois; and initially retired to Freeport, Illinois in 2004 and then relocated to Springfield, Missouri in 2009.
He and his wife, Betty attends Nixa First Assembly of God Church, Don Blansit, Pastor. They were loyal and participative members of Christ First Baptist Church, Harvey, IL for 22 years where The Rev. Dr. Napoleon Davis is Pastor. They served dutifully at the Abundant Life Christian Deliverance Center, Pastors Kelvin and Vickie McGee, Freeport, IL for four years. In Springfield, they participated in marketing/public relations events for Southwest Missouri Chapter of the National Alzheimer''s Association.
Mr. Johnson lived life to the fullest. Some of his hobbies included car racing where he won numerous medals and trophies; performing as Disc Jockey with the stage name of "''Lil Dave"; and, fishing across the nation and Canada for walleye pike, crappies, bass, blue gills and catfish. He loved God; sailing on his boats and watching the Chicago Bears, Bulls, and White Sox.
Services on Saturday, May 12, 2012 will be held at Christ First Baptist Church; Dr. Napoleon Davis, Founder & Pastor, officiating. 14441 S. Loomis Avenue, Harvey, Illinois 60426. Visitation & Fellowship to begin at 10:30a.m. Homegoing celebration to begin at 11:30a.m. and Repast from 12:30 to 2:30. Burial will be held at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Avenue Springfield, Mo. 65804 on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Noon with Dinner to be served after at Nixa First Assembly of God Church, 113 West Mt. Vernon Nixa, Mo. 65810
