David Robert Haun, 85, of Springfield, MO passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by friends and family on Saturday July 10, 2021. He was born on Monday, July 6, 1936 in Springfield, MO to Bertine Dickenson and Robert Haun.
A 1954 Central High School graduate, David went on to obtain his Bachelor Degree from Drury, a Masters Degree from Central Missouri State and was working on his Doctorate. He served in the Navy from 1954 to 1962 on the USS Yorktown. David started his Law Enforcement career in 1962 with the Springfield Police Dept and served in the Patrol and Motor Units. He retired from the SPD in 1993 as a Lieutenant. David started a new career with the Greene Co. Sheriff's office as Captain of the Warrants Division until retiring in 2002. He was very proud of his 60+ years of service to his country and community. David was affectionately called "Mother" by many of his friends and colleagues whom he mentored and cared about throughout his career. He and his wife Barbara were very proud and active in their support of their missionary work that they started in 2001 on the Navajo Reservation and the Kayenta Bible Church in Kayenta, AZ.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Barbara, one daughter Leahia of Palm Beach, FL, two step-sons Michael Parrish of Peoria IL andd Tony Parrish (wife Shelia) of Highlandville, MO, two grandchildren Mariel Parrish of Peoria IL and Carrie Rantz of Spokane, MO and one great-grandson Jackson Rantz of Spokane, MO.
A visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804 with Springfield PD honors and memorial services to follow at 1:30 PM. Entombment and full military honors will take place at the Springfield Veteran's Cemetery at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made in his name to the C.A.R.E. Animal Center, 1328 W. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65807. Online condolences may be made at www.klingnerfuneralhome.com
