Darrell E.
Crick
April 19, 1947 – March 19, 2022
Major Darrell E. Crick, Springfield Police Department
retired, age 74 of Raymore passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022. He was born
April 19, 1947 in Medicine Lodge, KS to Clinton and Elaine (David) Crick.
Darrell grew up in Windsor,
MO. In high school he played
basketball and was on the track team. Darrell married Lisa Burke in 1989
celebrating 32 years of marriage. Darrell enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Darrell began his law enforcement career with Springfield
Police Department in 1976. In his 26 year
career as a police officer he earned a master's degree in Criminal
Investigation Administration, graduated from the FBI
National Academy,
studied at Northwestern
University and MSU's Management
Development Institute.
When Darrell was a young officer he worked undercover. Over
the years Darrell received several promotions. He was the Criminal
Investigations Division (CID) commander and interim chief. At various points in
his career he supervised all detectives, major crimes, crimes against persons
and property, juvenile, SWAT supervisor and Uniform Commander over Patrol and
Traffic. He supervised the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which is Narcotics,
Vice and Intelligence.
Darrell worked as a
consultant including an assessment of the Branson Underground and Senator
Blunt's office. He was security for President's Reagan, Bush and others.
Darrell was on the protection team that protected Colonel Oliver North while
Osama Bin Laden and Muammar Gaddafi threatened to have Col. North assassinated.
Darrell recently retired as an Adjunct Professor in the
Master's program for Webster
University in the
classroom and online for 18 years. He taught four different classes in the
Business Organization and Security Management (BOSM) program at Ft. Leonard Wood in the Police Career Captains
Course. He taught the requisite course, administration, physical asset
protection and the capstone course. Darrell's students were literally from all
over the world especially Egypt,
Saudi Arabia and Dubai.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents; and a
sister-in-law Lori Hicks.
Darrell is survived by his wife
Lisa of Raymore; daughters Stephanie Crick of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jennifer
Yankowski, her husband Steve of Scranton PA; three grandchildren Stephen and his
wife Samantha, Alex, and Mariah Yankowski; and a great-granddaughter
Abigail Yankowski; a sister Linda Chick of Lee's Summit; nephew Mike Chick; a
niece Mayci Hicks; and his former wife Judy Crick.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held
at 1:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2022 at Rivermonte
Memorial Gardens,
Springfield.
The Springfield Police Honor Guard will serve as flag and urn bearers.
