Danny Allen "Mouse" Letterman
Danny Allen "Mouse" Letterman, 68, of Springfield, passed away Jan. 25, 2018, at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, following a heart attack. He was surrounded by his family.
Dan was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Springfield, to Freeman and Mary Kathryn (Self) Letterman. He attended Central High School before joining the United States Army in 1967. A specialist fourth class in the second cavalry fourth division, he served in Germany during the Vietnam War era before his honorable discharge in 1970.
Dan married Sheryl Lee Hess on Nov. 19, 1976, and together they had two children, Adam Allen Letterman and Robin Lee Letterman.
Dan was a printer and a small-business owner by trade. He used his G.I. Bill to apprentice at a print shop and in 1985 started his own company, Springfield Printing and Laminating Services. The business closed upon his retirement in 2013.
Dan believed in grabbing all the gusto out of life the first time around. He and Sheryl loved to travel the country on endless road trips, especially into Colorado and the mountains. Dan loved gardening and kept vibrant and immaculate flower beds along every perimeter of his Midtown Springfield home. In their youth, the family spent nearly every weekend each summer on their boat at Table Rock Lake and staying at the Joe Bald Campgrounds. When not outdoors, he also enjoyed frequenting his favorite casinos. Dan loved his children and his grandson, Ryan, and spending time with his Longbranch, later Crazy Hats, family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Robin, one brother, David Letterman, and two sisters, Sandra Mitchell and Shirley Ducker.
He is survived by his loving wife Sheryl, Adam and his wife Emily, his grandson Ryan Brandenburg and Ryan's father John, and two brothers, Donald Letterman and Stevie Letterman.
A celebration of life to share our stories of Dan will be held at 10 a.m., Feb. 10, at Klingner-Cope at White Chapel in Springfield, with a visitation after the celebration. A wake with family and friends will follow at Crazy Hats Lounge, 2000 N. National Ave., Springfield. Burial at a later date will be at Eastlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Danny's name to Adam and Emily's adoption fund at GoFundMe.com/Letterbaby.
