Dale Van Alford, 92, passed away on April 14, 2016 in Springfield, MO after a short illness.
Dale was born in Niangua, MO on September 12, 1923 to Everett and Ila (Latimer) Alford.
He managed runway maintenance at the Springfield Airport for 40 years and was a member of the Legion of Honor of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. Dale was a pilot, owned several small airplanes, and belonged to the Fraternal Order of Quiet Birdmen.
Dale loved his church and church family at North Nixa Baptist, where he volunteered many hours for them. (He was known as "Hey Dad 2" and enjoyed working with his buddy, Gene Boyd, "Hey Dad 1"). Together, with the rest of the "Old Codgers", they spent many hours keeping the church building and grounds in pristine condition.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy Alford, daughter Carol and sister Lena York.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sylvia (Hendrix) Alford of the home, 2 daughters, Vicki Miller of Sparta and Paula Brewer of Kansas City, step-daughter, Debra Wright (Mike) of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and step-son, Robert Hendrix, Jr. (Pamela) of Sedalia, MO, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of close friends.
Visitation will be held at North Nixa Baptist Church on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 1-2 pm. Services will begin at 2 pm, with internment to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
