Cleo Hampton passed away at the age of 103 on January 20, 2015 at Magnolia Square Nursing Home. Cleo was born on July 27, 1911, to Norton George and Jessie Grace (White) Rensch. Cleo attended Springfield High School and graduated with a degree in Home Economics from MSU then known as Southwest Missouri State Teachers College. Cleo taught in Springfield Elementary Schools for 27 years.
Cleo met Earl Hampton at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church as a young woman. They eloped to Buffalo Missouri in 1933. They spent many happy years together and had been married for 72 years at the time of his death in 2005.
Cleo is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; her brother, Junior "Doc" Rensch and son-in-law, Larry Atwood.
Cleo is survived by daughters: Betty Atwood, June Stone and husband Robert, Judy Colwell and husband James, all of Springfield. Grandchildren: Lori Webb and husband Mike, Leslie McKee and husband Steve, Lynda Atwood, Dr. Thomas Stone and wife Rachel, Douglas Stone and wife Alicia, Christopher Stone and wife Susan, Joshua Colwell and fianc Jennifer Nelson. Great-grandchildren: Jesse Webb and wife Rachael, Ellie Webb, Kiley McKee, Morgan McKee, Andrew Stone, William Stone, Sarah Stone, Kaitlyn Stone, Ryan Stone, Noah Stone, Jacob Stone, Abigail Stone, Grace Stone, and niece Suzanne Sittel and husband Wade.
Cleo loved her family and her home. She loved to garden, grew beautiful roses, loved family picnics and entertaining. She and Earl enjoyed many weekends at their cabin on Table Rock Lake. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Cleo was a special lady who her family loved dearly. She will always be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 9:30-10 A.M. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at the Rivermonte Chapel, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield, MO. Services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015. Burial will follow in the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
