Charles Curtis Hurley, Jr was born September 12, 1928 to Charles Sr and Lydia Hurley. He was known to many as Junior. He departed this life, July 10, 2016. His health had declined in the past few months and he passed very peacefully with family at his side.

He married the love of his life, Helen Rose Fredrick, on August 2, 1949. They shared 64 years together before Helen''s passing on June 30, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents Charles Sr and Lydia and his step-dad Oliver "Sam" Samuel. He shared a special bond with his step-dad. They shared many hamburgers at Rosie Jo''s Caf in Ozark almost every Friday until Sam''s passing.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Goodwin (Mike) and son, Ken Hurley (Karen); brother, Ron Hurley (Opal) and sister, Louanna Wasson (Roger) all of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and too many friends to count.

Charlie started his career as a framer and woodworker for local homebuilders in Springfield in his early 20''s. He worked for Trailmobile and started the first hot rod shop in Springfield in 1957, known as C&H Automotive with Don Cramer. People today, still know the name C&H Automotive. After closing C&H Automotive, he went to work for Dayco in 1966. He retired from Dayco in 1991 to spend time traveling with Helen. One of their favorite places to visit was the state of California to visit some of the well-known hot rod shops. They also traveled to many NASCAR and NHRA drag races nationwide.

Charlie''s hobbies included drag racing in his younger years "Big Iron" which was a 36 Chevy pickup. As of late, Charlie relocated "Big Iron" and its owner in Rolla, MO. He was known as one of the best engine balancers in Springfield, being called many times to come "help". He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed giving family and friends many of his works of art. He was a collector of almost any type of racing and automotive memorabilia. He enjoyed the history and development of Springfield. He took hundreds of photos, clipped newspaper articles and archived the history and development of Springfield.

Charlie was a member of the Ozark Area Racing Foundation. He was in the Ozark Area Racing Foundation Hall of Fame and known as a pioneer. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of South Haven Baptist Church and the Wedgeworth Sunday school class. Charlie was also a Shriner, a member of the Royal Tin Car Club and enjoyed spending time with a special group of "Republic Guys" that he thought of as family.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:30 am with visitation from 10 till 11:30 at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W. St. Hwy EE (west Division), Springfield, MO. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens following the service.

Family has requested memorial donations be made in Junior''s name to a charity of your choice.
