Cathey Renee (Lane) Montgomery, 56, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 after a three-month battle with cancer at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. Cathey was born May 20, 1962 to Charles and Ann (Pilkinton) Lane in Springfield, Missouri. She was the fourth of five children in the family, and her three sisters Debbie, Cindy, and Connie still live nearby with their spouses, Jim, Greg, and Jerry respectively.

Cathey graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1980. She met her husband, David Montgomery while working in Springfield. After an exciting night of planning a life together, they eloped on January 21, 1985. They were married in the living room of Rev. Ed Grey and often laughed about the phone ringing in the middle of the ceremony.

Cathey committed her life to her family and the influence of her unconditional love and tireless care are evident in their three children. She had a strong faith and was always a peacemaker, keeping her family close through even the most difficult times.

Cathey is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Amanda (Aaron) Detherow, two sons, David Montgomery and John (Samantha) Montgomery, and three grandchildren, Max and Henry Detherow, and Luxana Montgomery. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Kunigunde Montgomery, and sisters-in-law Patty Roberts, Susan (Ernie) Riehn, and Greta (Jeff) Turner as well as a brother-in-law John Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her brother Steve Lane, sister-in-law Terry Montgomery, nephew Charlie Philips, niece Lindsey Laffoon, and father-in-law John Montgomery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 26, in the Chapel at Klingner-Cope Funeral Home at Rivermonte. Funeral services will be held there at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27, with Pastor Ted Cederblom officiating. Burial will follow immediately after at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
