Carolyn Agnus "Mitchell" Avant went home to be with her Lord and Savoir on Saturday October 29, 2011 at the age of 87. She was born on November 18, 1924 to Howard O. and Jeanette Overfield Mitchell in Independence, Kansas. She met George Thomas Avant when he was stationed at an Army Air Base near Independence. They were married May 1944. In 1948, their only child, Janet Leslie Avant Montgomery was born.Carolyn was a very dedicated and loving wife and mother, who was always a "lady", and enjoyed such things as hosting parties, cooking, traveling and family. She loved the Lord and served Him all of her adult life. In her later years, she was always sweet and kind to her health care workers and family. Her husband George preceded her in death in 1984. She is survived by her daughter Janet and husband Joe Montgomery of Strafford, one graddaughter Jody Montgomery Lawson and husband Curt, and a great-granddaughter Jacy Lynn Lawson.Visitation will be Tuesday November 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Midtown. A graveside service conducted by Pastor Shane Hughes will be held on Wednesday Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
