Sue Grider, 66, passed away on July 25th, 2012, with her family by her side. She was born on April 25th, 1946, in Iberia, Missouri to Grant and Irene Skaggs.
Sue grew up on her family''s farm and graduated from Iberia High School in 1964. She then attended Central Missouri State College and received her degree in Language Arts. After graduation, she started her teaching career in Union, Missouri . At this time, she met and married Jim Grider. After Jim served our country in the Vietnam War, they returned to Springfield. Then, shortly after, they moved to Iberia in order for Sue to teach at her Alma Mater. In 1987, the family relocated to Gardner, Kansas and since 2003, Jim and Sue called Springfield home again.
Sue''s interests included playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was on the Card Ministry at First Baptist Church in Gardner and was an active member of Hillside Baptist Church in Springfield.
Most importantly, we will never forget the impact Sue had on students in her teaching career. Mrs. Grider inspired students inside and outside of the classroom, teaching English, French and leading many extracurricular activities. She encouraged anyone and everyone to be the very best they could be and maintained this spirit even after she suffered a severe stroke in 1995. You rarely heard a complaint out of Sue and her positive and loving personality was strong until God took her home on Wednesday.
Sue is survived by her husband, Jim ; sisters, Joan Juergens of Belleville, Illinois and Paula Schneider of Eldon, Missouri ; daughter, Theresa White and her husband Steve White of Ozark, Missouri ; son Kevin Grider and his wife Erin Grider of Johnston, Iowa ; 4 grandchildren, Jeremey White, Jessie White, Daniel Grider and Zachary Grider.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Thomas Skaggs and sister, Reta Shelton.
