Obituary

Bonnie Jean Johnson, age 91, Springfield, Missouri lived a beautiful faith-filled life. She was known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and master gardener. She passed away peacefully in her home on July 5, 2023  with her husband and family lovingly by her side. She had a God given team of caregivers and family who kept her comfortable as she transitioned from this life to her place with Jesus for eternity. She kept her sweet smile and disposition to her very last breath.

Bonnie was born on March 14, 1932 to William and Ophelia Goodrich in Lake Charles, Louisiana and grew up in Blytheville Arkansas. She was the oldest of six children. After Bonnie graduated from Blytheville High School in 1950, she worked at the local drug store until she met Charles Eugene Johnson at an area-wide church bonfire. After dating long distance three months, they married November 30, 1951. They had four children: Cheryl Denise Kelly (Mike), Teresa Danette Fleming (Robert), Douglas Eugene Johnson (Stacey), Dayla Kay Lairmore (Rick), all residing in the Springfield area. She is survived by Charles Johnson, in their home. Bonnie and Charles celebrated their 71st anniversary last November with an outdoor extended family dinner celebration.

Bonnie always gave without asking anything in return. She and her husband Charles committed their entire lives to Christ before they were married and they made a wonderful team. He was the visionary and she was the detail person. They learned how to take nothing and create something and then also to care for their possessions to the point their items never seemed to wear out. This hard work and zeal served them well as they raised  four children. Bonnie supported Charles in his career in public education and as a school superintendent and community leader. Her listening ear, willingness to reach their goals together and her ability to share wisdom, gave Charles the path to his success. She was the quiet force behind his sails.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ophelia Goodrich and brother Neil Goodrich and she is survived by brothers Robert Goodrich, Jerry Goodrich (Donna) and sisters Mona (Howard) Freeman and Mary Kay (Benny) Owens and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Bonnie and Charles have 13 grandchildren: Chelsey Kelly Bode (Kraig), Chase Kelly (Michelle), Shailey Kelly Murphy (Jonathan), Brianna Fleming Campbell (Jackson), Brittney Fleming Harris (Dylan), Cassidy Johnson, Natalie Johnson Lajeuness (Marcus), Hadassah, Chloe, Adin, Eli, Camon and Asher Lairmore, and 9 great-grandchildren (Ryann, Hudson, Opal, Moses, Luke, Emma, Josie, Jack and Mae.)

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."

Pallbearers: Chase Kelly, Adin Lairmore, Eli Lairmore, Camon Lairmore, Asher Lairmore, Jonathan Murphy
