IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobby Lee
Monday
February 12, 1927 – December 27, 2022
Bobby Lee Monday, son of the late Coy Monday and Gertrude Mahan Monday, was born February 12, 1927, in Springfield, Missouri. Coy was employed as an iceman while Gertrude kept the home. He attended Central High School until 10th grade, later obtaining his Certificate of High School Equivalence on February 17, 1966, at the age of 39. Bobby met his lifelong companion in Mary Ellen at the Doling Park Skating Rink, knowing he would marry her when watching her leave on the bus home after their first meeting.
Bobby was united in holy matrimony to Mary Ellen Parton on April 7, 1945. The newlyweds remained in Springfield, Missouri where they raised their family and grew their entrepreneurial ventures. Their union was blessed with two children and nearly seven decades of true companionship. Mary Ellen preceded him in death on January 19, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Bob cared for his beloved throughout her trials, ensuring she stayed with him in their home.
Bobby was a self-made businessman and entrepreneur to his core. Prior to his business ventures, Bob was drafted by the United States Army during World War II on May 2, 1945, near the war's end until November 7, 1945. Bob reenlisted on November 8, 1945, and continued to serve as a Field Lineman in Germany until he was again Honorably Discharged on November 29, 1946, as a Private First Class. During his service, he received the Army of Occupation Medal and Victory Medal. Following his deployment, Bobby apprenticed as a plumber and thus his business grew. Mary Ellen managed the books while he invested in real estate across a growing Springfield.
Bobby quietly departed this life Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Jacob's House in Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen Parton Monday, brothers Carroll Monday and Don Monday, and sisters Mary Lou Hawkins, Betty Wilson, and an infant girl. Although his family aches for his departure from this realm, they find comfort at the end of his sorrow and rejoice in knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife and family. Bobby will be laid to rest in White Chapel Memorial Gardens with his family who left before him. An intimate graveside service will be held and attended by his family.
His vibrant life will forever be cherished by the lives of his children: Sue (Tom) Collier of Brighton, MO and Joy (Lynn) Adam, of Long Lane, MO; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
