Robert George "Sully" Sullivan, age 93, of Springfield, MO passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He was born on August 28, 1927 in St. Louis, MO and moved to Springfield, MO with his family in 1935. In 1950 he married Helen Jane Robertson, his wife of 41 years, and they had two children, Cynthia Cay and James Patrick.

Sully served his county during WWII as an enlisted cartographer in the United States Army for two years and as a reservist for ten years, leaving the service with the rank of Sergeant. After serving as superintendent of schools in Fordland, MO and Fair Grove, MO, Sully served as the Director of Education for 25 years and two days at the United States Federal Medical Center in Springfield, MO. A devout Catholic, Sully devoted his life to the service of others and was always available to offer a helping hand and a kind word to anyone in need. He loved to lose himself in mystery novels and western adventures but was at his happiest laughing and making memories with his family. From weekly breakfasts at Springfield Family Restaurant to Christmas Eve sleepovers, Sully was the North Star of love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Sully was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jane, his daughter, Cynthia Cay Mills, and his grandson, Joshua Luke Sullivan.

Survivors include his son, James Patrick Sullivan and wife, Marla; one son-in-law, Jim Mills;two grandsons, Jon Sullivan and wife, Caitlin, Jeremy Sullivan, and husband, Michael; two granddaughters, Samantha Finley and husband, Mardy, and Anna Jane Sullivan; and seven great grandchildren, Maggie, Chance, Landon, Adriana, Gracie, Austyn, and Emily.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804 with funeral services to follow at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May, 22, 2021 at the St. Agnes Cathedral, 533 S. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO 65806.
