Robert Eugene Duvall passed away at home, in his sleep, the morning of his 89th birthday. He was born in Lebanon, MO to Clarence and Creetle Duvall on July 18, 1932.
Bob graduated from Lebanon, HS in 1950 and then joined the U.S. Army. Much of his Army time was spent working in "Courts and Boards" typing legal records from disciplinary hearings. After the Army, with the GI Bill he obtained his baccalaureate degree from Southeast Missouri State with a double major of geology and biology. As a person who loved fishing, he sought a job that would give him an early retirement. Defense Mapping Agency and Aeronautical Charts in St. Louis was hiring and with his Army time, he could retire in 30 years. With determination, he built his savings to enable him to retire from cartography and return to southwest Missouri with its fishing lakes and streams. Bob married Ellen Komarek March6, 1971. They enjoyed traveling from Nova Scotia to the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, to Florida, Europe and cruising. In St. Louis, he enjoyed frequent visits and meals with his brother Dick and wife Betty, especially in the years before Bob met Ellen as Dick and Betty were his only family in St Louis. They moved to Portland, OR and eventually retired there. Bob visited his widowed mother and sister Ann Michael in Lebanon. For many years he enjoyed the hobby of grafting different varieties of walnut trees onto black walnut trees on acreage he owned in Laclede County.
He enjoyed being with his sister's family, Jim Michael until his death, son John, son Darrell until his death and wife Sherri and their son Zachery, daughter MaryKatelynn. When Bob retired and they moved from St. Louis to Springfield in the fall of 1990, Bob's fishing increased. He was off to Stockton and Pomme de Terre Lakes. When they were available, he went with his fishing-buddies, brother-in-law Jim Michael or cousin Bill Duffey. Sadly, both preceded him in death.
His sister Anna Lee Michael and husband Jim and sons John and Darrell (wife Sherri) continued to live in Southwest Missouri. Jim and Darrell are both deceased. His brother Dick and wife Betty reside in Portland, OR. Cousin David with wife Jeanne Duffey of Rogersville, MO were especially supportive of Bob in the last years of his life as his dementia progressed. In addition to his family, he will be missed by his in-law family, brother-in-law Bill and wife Sue Komarek of Peru, Illinois, nephew Will and wife Anisha, children Alina and Ayson of Seattle; and niece Becky and husband Nate Kopchick, son Theo of Boulder.
