Obituary

Amagene B. Nivens, 91 of Springfield passed away November 21, 2014. She was born May 20, 1923 to Fred and Nora Cockman in Myrtle, MO. She married Wayne H. Nivens on April 7, 1946 and together they owned and operated the Marshal Auto Store in Alton, MO during the early 50s. One of their treasured memories was a trip to Havana, Cuba in 1958 where they had cocktails with President Batista.

Amagene volunteered at Mercy Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of the Grant Aveue Freewill Baptist Church for 57 years. Amagene also enjoyed painting, handwork crafts, gardening, traveling but most of all spending time with her family.

Amagene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, a sister Jewell Stuermer and a nephew Steven Wiggs. She is survived by her children, Randy Nivens, Rick Nivens and Debbie (Steve) Hansen; 4 grandchildren, Rochelle (Skyler) Anderson, Lora (Jason) Christman, Erik (Jessica) Hansen, and Jesse (Amanda) Nivens; 7 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Trevor, and Aiden Christman, Ella and Willa Hansen, Evan and Elika Anderson; a sister-in-law Hazel Clark; nieces, Angie Massey and Velda Atkinson, nephews, Tim Wiggs, Claude, Kenneth and James Biffle and numerous other family and friends.

Amagene had been a resident at The Gardens for the past 9 years and had developed many friendships while there.

A visitation will be held Monday, November 24th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home Rivermonte Chapel, 4500 S. Lone Pine, Springfield. The funeral service will be Tuesday, November 25th at 12:30 p.m. at the Rivemonte Chapel. Interment will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Family have requested donations be made in Amagene''s name to the Grant Aveue Freewill Baptist Church, 1060 S. Grant Ave. Springfield, MO 65807.
