IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Allan Stuart
Clapp
July 10, 1928 – December 17, 2022
Allan Stuart Clapp, age 94, was ushered into Heaven on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Glendale Gardens Nursing/Rehabilitation Center, Springfield, Missouri.
A funeral will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 E. Cherry St., Springfield, Missouri, with the Rev. Cooper McWhirter officiating. Interment will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens preceding the church service.
Surviving Al are his beloved wife of 46 years, Rosemond; a sister, Lois Floyd from Clermont, Florida; a nephew Stephen Floyd (Ashley) from Cody, Wyoming; a niece, Stephanie Floyd from Portland, Oregon; and special great nieces, Grail, Annie and Claire.
Al was born July 10, 1928 to Cecil and Elva Haas Clapp in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He grew up there and was president of his senior class at Kalamazoo Christian High School. He graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois in 1951 and later took advanced classes in manufacturing and finance at Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan. He then served a term in the United States Air Force –Technology Support.
Al's long-term career was in insurance administration in Chicago, Illinois and after retirement he was a certified real estate appraiser.
It was in Chicago that Al met Rosemond Owens. They were married in 1976 at the First Presbyterian Church in Evanston, Illinois and lived 25 years in Wilmette, a Chicago North-Shore suburb, enjoying the many advantages of proximity to the big city. They especially liked travelling together, both in the United States and abroad.
In 2002, Al and Rosemond moved to Springfield for a little slower pace of life, closer to family. In Springfield, Al volunteered with "How to Start and Run a Business" and on SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives).
At First and Calvary Church, Al served on the Board of Trustees and various committees (Personnel, Building and Grounds, Security), sang in the choir, and played piano at the Men's Prayer Breakfast.
Al had unusual talent in both sports and music. His team won a number of gold medals in running the mile relay for Wheaton College and Coach Gil Dodds, and in 1949 established a record that lasted for 71 years. He continued his running and fitness regimen into his 80's. Al studied piano twelve years and pipe organ six, along with singing in men's choruses. God richly blessed this multi-talented man who lived an incredibly full life and was deeply loved by family and friends.
Gifts in memory of Allan Stuart Clapp may be directed to the Council of Churches of the Ozarks, 1910 E. Meadowmere St., Springfield, Missouri 65804 or to First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, 820 E. Cherry Street, Springfield, Missouri 65806.
